Niece Sulo remembers...
அத்தை,
For me the most beautiful word. She remained Athai for many of the cousins in our family. Of couse she could connect to many many relatives.
She was a peculiar woman with a peculiar name " Kamoose Athai ".
Camera woman of the family. My very first photo (3yrs old)was clicked by her.
There was no field where she did not lay her hands on! All types of embrodary,
3 D- dolls making, Tanjore painting( which she learnt when she was 70 ). If any noval idea comes in her mind, it needed that to be put in action at the ealiest. She never hesitated to learn from youngsters too. She was a life long learner.
In her 50s, I have accompanied her to do her shopping, sari, jewellery...
From my childhood, I longed for holidays, when I could spend time learning new hand work item. While I learned Tatting, it was hard. She said it u eat, old rice, பழையது, I will achive it.
Of course, I did it and learnt the skill too😂
She had a way with all, stirict but
corrected us, built us up....the way we are today.
Her passion for reading was non stop!
Also she loved travelling. My( First foreign)trip with my Amma and my Athai to Singapore was a memorable one! Just one week, but a super trip. We never missed anything. She was up always on her toes, to take up new adventures there too. To my knowledge, first person to wear 6 yrd saree into Madusaru! 🙌
I have always looked upon her as my role model and admired her in many ways. Knowingly or unknowingly, I have inherited so many of her qualities. So much to say, I feel proud of myself, when people comment / compare me with my அத்தை.
I always felt that she had a special corner for me in her heart.
Her blessings are always with me.🙏
