Great Grandson Dilip writes...

My Kollu paati My maternal great grand mother known by the pusedo name "kollu paati" for me, well, because she was the only one I knew in my active memory. I heard umpteen stories about her growing up from my mom and got the good fortune to interact and spend time all the way until final years of my college. An extremely strong willed lady married to a Doctor husband, she played an instrumental role in the upbringing of my mother during her college days at SIET. Not only that, she was also instrumental in finalizing the alliance for my mother with my father culminating in a wonderful married life for my mother and start of a great family for me and my brother Gautam. The top memories with her include her checking and double checking if my college Hindustan College of engineering was near samuthitam or not. She was paranoid a huge wave or proximity to ocean may sweep away my college. She was ofcourse artistically inclined making Tanjore paintings as well as teaching them to young folks. She was always ahead of her times, a brilliant example was sending my grandmother to a hostel for education and imbibing discipline to the entire next generation. Despite facing significant setbacks in life in form of her sons health, she remained resolute against the face of tragedy and tough times ensuring each of her grandchildren had a well settled life. She always ensured to have a touch with me as well, a fourth generation offspring, whenever i visited her from college ensuring i am well fed and in good spirits. The iconic Krishna apartments and proximity to dashaprakash are etched as lamdmarks in my as well as my mother's mind. Definitely remembering her 100 years after she was born by not only her children and grandchildren but even her great grandchildren means she was truly a stalwart of life. The gentle toothless smile and her bond with a strict disciplinarian husband stand out as a testament to her wonderful memory.
